I entered this in the recent Avatar character contest. I don't really think it'll win or anything, it was a bit rushed, but it's always fun to make a new character :DDD

Li Huo (which I have semi-deduced means "sharp fire", if behindthename.com is correct ^^;;) is 17 years old, 5'9", with black hair, dark brown eyes. She's an independent firebending performer and magician. She will sometimes perform privately for a rich family, but she can more often be found at travelling street fairs or circuses. She's very upbeat and energetic when she performs but in her private life she's somewhat introverted. She has a hard time making real friends because of this, so she devotes most of her time to thinking up new presentations and practicing her firebending. As a result she doesn't have much common sense, which causes her a lot of problems in her everyday life, especially when she is not hired by anyone.

I spent most of the time on her design, so I haven't had much time to develop her personality, but I still like her. ^_^

O_o Omg I didn't even notice the whole Ty Lee thing...I guess Ty Lee being one of my favorite characters affected it too much. Oh noes...

actually, the biggest difference is that Li Hua is an actual firebender--but she uses her ability for performances. Don't worry, the idea is still different!

I really like the general idea for this character, but I must comment on the outfit. She's missing the shoulder cloth you see in most Fire Nation clothes. I don't have the time to look for a picture of it now, but go to firebender.com and look for a picture of Ty Lee, for instance. Notice the darker pink cloth on her shoulders that are slightly pointy? They appear in most Fire Nation clothes.

The chinese-like collar are mostly seen in some Earth Kingdom clothes. (again, check firebender.com for references if you wish to confirm this yourself.)

Still, got to give you props on your art. I'd kill to draw like that. ;p :XD:

Okay, since I decided that it was unfair for you to search for the images yourself, I decided to do it. ^^;

Many Fire Nation citizens on the show have the shoulder cloth that I'm talking about, or at least some version of it. Take, for instance, Ty Lee, Azula, Mai and her father, as well as the circus director.

And the chinese-like collar that Li Huo's wearing? I swear I saw it on some Earth Kingdom people, but I can't find the image. However, upon closer examination of the photos, it would not look out of place on her if the shoulder cloth was there as well. Then again, who am I to say what you can or cannot draw for your character? ^^; Especially since a version of the 'shoulder cloth' is seen on in the Fortuneteller episode. ^^;

Wow, thanks for all of the reference pictures! I know what you're talking about. Actually the reason for that is because she was originally an Earth Kingdom character ^^;; But I really wanted her to be a Firebender too, ad I am in love with the color red, so I changed her. I was actually thinking about this issue myself but I decided I wouldn't like the design as much if I added in the way that fire nation clothing works up there. And to tell the truth, I don't know how Ty Lee does it, because that piece of fabric would get in the way when doing acrobatics. But seriously, thanks muchly for the detailed critique! I haven't sent it in yet (my college doesn't do mail on the weekends! >:O ) so I hope it gets there in time, but it's still something I'll seriously consider.

Yeah, you're probably right about the character design, but if you should give the shoulder cloth a try, too, if you want. [I kind of want to see how she'd look like in it. ^^;]

I'm glad I could give you a detailed critique. I see it as my duty as a natural critic. ;p

Li Huo sounds like such a good character! I really like her sandals. :XD:

I love the colloring and shading. THe outfit is awesome too!
